As a part of the conference, I competed in a Mock Senate where I placed in the top 4 and was able to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I also was Chair of the HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pension) Committee, which was awarded as the best committee at the conference. I was also elected by my peers to be the Majority Whip.
Relevant Experience
My teaching experience comes primarily from peer mentorship. I have worked with novice debaters, coming alongside them and helping them understand debate—from the basics of argumentation to the complexities of critiques and theory debate. I also tutor a little 8 year old with autism. So, I have a unique insight into understanding special needs.
About Me
My name is James, and I wanted to share a little about myself. I love debate, and it is no exaggeration to say that debate has changed my life. My goal is to help spread that experience to as many people as possible. I like to teach through asking questions (the Socratic Method). I ultimately want to enable your child or student with the skills needed to succeed not just in debate, but in all walks of life. I think my strengths as an instructor come from the fact that I have recent experience competing in debate and a true heart to teach debate. I have a desire to teach any student debate who has a true desire to learn and get better.
